
Richard Gadd is a Scottish actor, comedian, writer, and producer who rose to global prominence as the creator and star of Netflix’s Baby Reindeer. Born on 11 May 1989 in Wormit, Fife, he studied English literature and theatre studies at the University of Glasgow before training at the Oxford School of Drama. His work often explores difficult personal themes, including stalking, sexual assault, trauma, and masculinity.
Gadd’s career began on the stand‑up circuit, where he won the New Act of the Year Award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2010. He later earned an Edinburgh Comedy Award for his show Monkey See Monkey Do in 2016. In 2019 he premiered the one‑man play Baby Reindeer at the Edinburgh Fringe,
