Tip Us

We rely on the knowledge of our readers, sources and industry contacts to uncover stories that matter. If you have information that you believe warrants the attention of our editorial team, we want to hear from you. A well-sourced tip can lead to an investigation, a market explainer, a company profile or a consumer-money feature that holds power to account or helps our audience make informed decisions. This page explains what makes a useful tip, how to send it, and what happens after you do.

What makes a good tip?

We are particularly interested in tips that have a clear public interest dimension and are supported by evidence or credible first-hand knowledge. The following categories are especially relevant to our coverage:

  • Company developments – Significant strategic shifts, mergers, acquisitions, boardroom changes, fundraising rounds, or major contract wins and losses.
  • Redundancies and site closures – Planned or recent job cuts, factory or office closures, and restructuring that affects employees, suppliers or local communities.
  • Mis-selling and consumer-money issues – Products or services that may have been sold in a misleading way, hidden fees, unfair contract terms, or complaints patterns that suggest systemic problems.
  • Market irregularities – Unusual trading activity, potential insider dealing, pricing anomalies, or practices that undermine market integrity.
  • Public spending – Waste, inefficiency or conflicts of interest in government contracts, procurement, grants or subsidies.
  • Regulatory action – Investigations, fines, enforcement notices or policy changes by bodies such as the FCA, CMA, Ofgem or the Pensions Regulator.
  • Notable people stories – Profiles of individuals shaping British business, sport or public life – including career moves, reputational matters or personal achievements that are of genuine public interest.

How we verify tips

All submissions are reviewed by our Standards & Fact-Checking team, led by Helen Travers. We do not publish unverified claims. Our verification process involves:

  • Cross-referencing your information with independent sources, public records and documents.
  • Contacting relevant parties for comment when appropriate and ethical.
  • Applying the standards set out in our Sources & Standards page and our Fact-Checking Policy.

We never present rumours as facts. If we cannot verify a claim to the required standard, we will either seek further detail from you or decide not to publish.

Confidentiality

We take your confidentiality seriously. If you request anonymity, our editorial team will not share your identity with anyone outside the newsroom without your explicit consent. All personal data submitted to us is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. If you have concerns about legal risks or data protection, you may contact our compliance team at legal@tradewireuk.uk before submitting a tip.

What happens after you submit

We aim to acknowledge all tips within five working days. Because of the volume of submissions, we cannot guarantee that every tip will lead to a story, but we review each one carefully. If we decide to pursue your information, an editor will contact you to discuss next steps. If you do not hear from us within five days, please feel free to follow up via the same email thread.
