Our Story

City Ledger Media Ltd. launched TradeWireUK.uk to fill a specific gap in British business journalism. Too much of the coverage that reaches general readers is either breathless reporting on City bonuses or dry wire copy that assumes a level of financial literacy many people do not have. Meanwhile, the questions that matter — what do rising interest rates mean for a family mortgage, which companies are genuinely investing in British manufacturing, how does trade policy affect the price of goods on the shelf — are treated as niche concerns rather than central editorial subjects.

TradeWireUK.uk exists to cover the UK economy, financial markets, business news and personal finance with equal seriousness, but without the jargon that often excludes the people most affected by these stories. We treat a reader’s question about their savings rate with the same rigour we apply to a company’s quarterly results, because both are part of the same economic picture. We are editorially independent, commercially transparent and committed to plain-English reporting that informs rather than impresses.

Editorial philosophy under Edward Marsh

Our Editor-in-Chief, Edward Marsh, sets the standards that govern every article published on this site. He oversees editorial policy, corrections, source review and market data accuracy, and is the final decision-maker on publication. The core principle is straightforward: every story must answer a concrete question for the reader, every claim must be traceable to a named source or verifiable dataset, and every piece of content must be reviewed by a human editor before publication. We do not run unattributed opinion as news. We do not allow commercial relationships to determine editorial conclusions. And we do not publish anything that we would not be prepared to defend on the record.

Our desk structure

The newsroom is organised by subject area, with dedicated editors for the main beats that matter to a UK audience. Fiona Caldwell, Managing Editor, manages the daily publishing schedule, commissions articles and coordinates contributors. Daniel Okafor covers financial markets, the FTSE, currencies, commodities and investor news. Priya Mehta reports on the UK economy, inflation, interest rates, fiscal policy and Westminster economic decisions. Tom Beckett follows companies, industry, manufacturing, retail, energy and trade. Helen Travers leads fact-checking, source verification and corrections, and reviews sensitive stories before publication. Full profiles of the entire team are available on our team page.

What readers can expect

Every article carries a clear byline identifying the journalist who wrote it. Every factual claim is attributed to a named source, a public document or a verifiable dataset. Market data is handled according to a published market data policy that sets out how we source, check and present numbers on share prices, exchange rates, commodity prices and economic indicators. We do not use generative artificial intelligence to produce quotes, sources, interviews, bylines or author profiles. Any digital tools we employ are limited to research, editing, formatting, metadata and summarisation — and always under human supervision.

Transparent funding

TradeWireUK.uk is funded through display advertising, affiliate links (including financial product comparisons and price comparison services), commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing. All sponsored or commercial material is clearly labelled. Affiliate links are disclosed at the point of use. No commercial agreement influences editorial decisions. A full breakdown of our ownership and funding structure is published on the ownership and funding page.
